INTRODUCING NEW TEAM MEMBERS
We welcome Kate Woolven, Nicky Matthews,Vicky Brown and Tamara Jack who have all joined the HUB team in a part time capacity. Their arrival forms part of a staffing review that Tony has recently carried out which is designed to improve service and reduce pressure on staff and volunteers, particularly during busy times. Kate, Nicky and Vicky have been volunteers in the past so know the HUB well. All four are settling in to their new roles very quickly and their commitment and enthusiasm is there for all our customers to see.
2019 CHALKE VALLEY HISTORY FESTIVAL
We thank, in particular, Diana Field who came in every day to help and also of course to Hilary Brown, Liz Wiltshire and Catherine Butler all of whom were extremely helpful in providing HUB services direct to the History Festival. This meant some very early starts and much fetching and carrying as we provided a wider variety of food and drink choices than in previous years. They all did a splendid job and our increased sales at this year’s Festival reflect their much appreciated, contribution.
We are most grateful to the organisers of the History Festival for allowing us to support this great event.
ANOTHER CALL FOR CAKE MAKERS
Homemade cakes are an important part of our food offer in the Coffee Shop and as mentioned before, we are currently short of suppliers. So if you, or anyone you know, might be able to provide three or four cakes a week do please contact Tony.
WELCOME TO GEORGE FLINT
George will be working with us on a part-time basis during his summer holidays. Well done and thank you George for offering your services. The HUB is always keen to give the younger generation the opportunity for some work experience so if you have anyone in your family who would be interested, do please ask them to contact Tony to discuss how they might be able to help.
OUR WONDERFUL VOLUNTEERS
We always need more so don’t hesitate to step forward and join the team.
Tony has recently started holding informal “Feed Back” meetings with volunteers. The purpose of these meetings is to exchange ideas, share experiences and generally to iron out any niggles in the system. As well as the obvious benefit of creating a stronger team spirit amongst volunteers, these are fun social get-togethers as well. If you are thinking about becoming a volunteer you would be most welcome to attend one of these events as a good way of hearing what is involved and how interesting and rewarding volunteering can be. Tony is proposing to hold these meetings on roughly a monthly basis so just ask him the dates and you would be most welcome to attend.
TONY PLAYS THE MARKET
Tony is always keen to secure the best possible prices on the goods we sell in the HUB so much of his time is spent searching for better deals, comparing prices and taking advantage of special offers made by our wholesale suppliers. This continuous drive to keep prices competitive is of course an advantage to our customers but also to the commercial viability of the HUB as a whole. Balancing our role as a community facility with being a business which must make a profit, is all part of Tony’s job. We are lucky to have his wide experience handling this complex task for us.
