Make a Splash of Yellow along our Valley
The Giant Sunflower Challenge
To bring a smile and a little brightness into our lives at this difficult time, the three parishes of Bishopstone, Broad Chalke and Bowerchalke, as part of the Covid-19 Network, are encouraging households to take part in the Giant Sunflower Challenge. This will run between April and July.
For a small donation to village funds, three seeds from the giant sunflower will be yours to love, nurture and encourage over coming weeks to achieve the tallest and/or largest flower, and the award of the Champion sunflower grower 2020.
It’s a family activity for all age’s, young to not so young, to get everyone involved in planting seeds and looking after the flower, and as a symbol that our communities are growing together.
Grow the sunflowers where everyone can see them (where possible) and help bring a little more brightness into everyone’s day.
Regular checks and report on heights and dimensions will be included in village magazines and on village websites. We have only so many seeds so don’t delay…the earlier you plant the bigger the sunflower…or is it!?
How to enter: To avoid unnecessary travel and contact we are doing this by post with all three villages being coordinated.
Send SAE together with recommended donation of £2 (cheque payable to Broad Chalke Parish Council) and your email (so we can provide updates and information) to:
Clerk Broad Chalke Parish Council
C/O 6 Stoke Farthing Courtyard
Entries must be received by 17 April. Your seed packs will then be posted out to you. Further competition guidance will appear in village magazines and on websites.
